Tinoc, Ifugao- Tomato farmers stand to further improve their quality of produce with the 500 crates they received from the Department of Agriculture- Cordillera (DA-CAR) on July 17, 2020.

Mayor Samson C. Benito expressed his gratitude for the program of the DA that focuses on helping the farmers. He further voiced his appreciations to the farmers’ organizations and the Municipal Agriculturist Office (MAO) on proposing such interventions to address the concerns of the farmers.

Moreover, Provincial Agriculturist Domingo Mariano, on the other hand, shared some elements on the success of a farmers’ organization. Among these are the dedication of officers, quality members, thorough planning, and the desire of the organization to lasts.

DA-CAR High-Value Crops and Development Program (HVCDP) Focal Person Joan D. Bacbac said that during the first consultation, it was mentioned that plastic crates are being rented at Php 5.00 to Php 7.00 per piece. Because of this, the DA addressed this issue to reduce production cost and that at the same time will be used to procure additional crates thru a minimum fee.

“We are grateful that our request has been granted. Our initial plan is to rent the crates to further accumulate funds to buy additional crates for our organization”, said Celso Baniahan, President of Mangihngihi Impugong Ap-apid Poblacion Irrigators Association Inc. (MIAPIA).

The organizations benefitted from the crates were Huhlucan Indigenous Gardeners’ Association (HIGO), Impugong Farmers’ Movement Association (IFMA), Gumhang Agricultural Livelihood Association (GALA), Mangihngihi Impugong Ap-apid Poblacion Irrigators Association Inc. (MIAPIA), and Poblacion Tinoc Famers’ Organization.
