The first disaster-resistant and energy-efficient monolithic dome in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) located in sitio Agaki, Balili, Mankayan, Benguet was finally completed and turned over to the Manpat-a Farmers Association (FA) on January 21, 2022.
This is also the first-ever dome worldwide that was built in the highest elevation at 7,000 feet above sea level, according to Engr. Roden Guinto of the Dazzling Lite Enterprises who contracted the project.

Having a total floor area of 180 square meters and a height of 8.7 meters, the dome can store 250 metric tons while its packing facility (L-type) is enough to preserve the harvest of the municipality. It will primarily serve as a packing house and cold storage of highland vegetables that are produced in the community. It will benefit about 15 farmers’ cooperatives and associations (FCAs) who are mostly into good agricultural practices or GAP. Among the major commodities being produced are potato, Chinese cabbage, cabbage, sweet peas, carrots, and bell peppers.

In total, the monolithic dome has a total cost of Php20.798 Million which came from the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act (Bayanihan II) and the Mankayan local government unit (LGU) with Php800, 000.00 counterpart. The lot was donated by Mr. Donald Posayen and family, member of the Manpat-a FA.

Putting up cold storage facilities aims to maintain the freshness and quality of agri-fishery products in a bid to reduce post-harvest losses. In return, it will contribute to improving the farmers’ income. Further, the facility is also seen as an added boost to the ongoing efforts of the agri-stakeholders in providing additional post-harvest facilities in the province.

Mr. Guinto shared that constructing the dome was challenging starting from the road and the terrain itself. However, they were able to push through with the continuous guidance and assistance of the DA-CAR and LGU partners as well as the community folks whom he described as “people with gracious hearts.”

Meanwhile, DA-CAR OIC-Regional Executive Director Cameron P. Odsey encouraged the Manpat-a FA and other FCAs to be familiarized with the overall operations of the facility as well as the agricultural demand to fully maximize its benefits. He also lauded the FCAs of Balili, Mankayan for their good deeds and efforts in supporting the programs of the agriculture sector.

Manpat-a President Mr. Basilio Ngaseo Jr. committed to embrace and maintain the monolithic dome. He also recognized the support of his members in the association which is contributory to the provision of the dome to date. One of the programs that they embraced is accordingly the GAP.

The turnover and acceptance ceremony was led by Dir. Odsey, Benguet Governor Melchor D. Diclas, Congressman Eric Yap thru his representative Ms. Jirrah Siddayao, and Mankayan Municipal Mayor Atty. Frenzel Ayong. //
