The Regional Field Office of the Department of Agriculture (DA) convened the members of Provincial Management Group (PMG) of Benguet for its first provincial management meeting (PMM) for CY 2019. The activity was held at the Gladiola Center, Km.6 La Trinidad on March 12, 2019.

OIC-Regional Executive Director Dr. Cameron Odsey said that the meeting is done in a quarterly basis to create a venue for all banner programs, special projects and DA attached agencies in the region. This is in order to coincide efforts thereby improving and creating strategies for better project implementation. Likewise, to address the issues and concerns from partner LGU’s.

The said meeting was attended by the Municipal Agriculturist (MAs), Office of Provincial Agriculturist, Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), representatives from the Banner programs such as Rice, Corn, High Value Crops Development (HVCD), Organic Agriculture (OA), Livestock, Halal, as well as attach agencies including Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC), Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), National Food Authority (NFA), Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS), Fertilizer Pesticide Authority (FPA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).

“This meeting is a chance to mingle with each other not only from the member of DA family but also with our partner LGUs,” Director Odsey said.

He added that this is a chance to look on how to synchronize with every barangays and municipalities. “We look on how to complement the efforts of the local government, region and attached agencies to facilitate better program implementation,” Director Odsey stressed.

On the other hand, he shared some pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte through Secretary Emannuel K. Piñol last Friday each barangay in the entire Philippines should have at least one water impounding dam. With this, he said that they are looking on how to respond and integrate this in the budget.

Moreover, Dr. Odsey encourages all municipal agriculturists to visit the smart greenhouse located within the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) compound in Baguio City. It is the first automated greenhouse in the country which aims to modernize agriculture. The Philippines and South Korea jointly launched the said greenhouse last March 8, 2018.

Other presentations during the activity include the CY 2019 DA programs and projects by Susan Balanza, Chief of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (PMED). To make all the organizations aware of the programs, she gave the summary of the interventions for 2019.

Further, the special programs, DA banner programs and attach agencies presented their issues and concerns. Problems taken positively were raised from different organizations and participants aired their suggestions and recommendations to resolve these issues and concerns. 

Meanwhile, Director Odsey believed that the forum is the best way to bring together all the concerns of every program for an overall effort among the agricultural sectors.//Cara Sacyaten/DevComIntern
