As the Baguio Health Department mandated communities to eliminate dengue mosquitoes, the Department of Agriculture through the High Value Crops Development Program donated 10 knapsack sprayers to its nearby barangays in support to the regional dengue mosquito search and destroy campaign.

Among the recipients of knapsack sprayers are Barangay Outlook Drive, Barangay Guisad and Barangay Pinsao Proper in Baguio City and Barangay Puguis in La Trinidad, Benguet.

“The knapsack sprayer will be used to mist dengue mosquitoes using chemical mixtures given by DOH” Mr. William Forosan ,Barangay Outlook Drive kagawad,  said.

It can be recalled that reported cases of dengue virus has increased in three areas in the region specifically in Benguet, Baguio and Ifugao where Benguet raised yellow alert to dengue outbreak recently.

Furthermore, the Department of Health data showed that there is an increase of 57 percent in dengue cases in the region compared to the same period in 2015. Dengue virus infected 2,839 individuals in the region with seven deaths recorded from January 1 to July 2 this year.

Ms Bacbac also said that it is a must for DA to support the campaign since it is one of the department’s social responsibility to the region and the nation as a whole. // Danica Tomin
