In a continuous pursuit of promoting agribusiness opportunities for the agricultural sector in the region, the Department of Agriculture – Cordillera conducted a two-day Investment Forum on Poultry Production on February 26-27, 2025 in Baguio City.
There are 46 participants consisting of farmer cooperatives and associations, individual farmers, and Overseas Filipino Workers, who are also engaged in other agricultural commodities.
This initiative focuses on promoting and showcasing potential business opportunities such as farming, livestock rearing, processing, and distribution. It also seeks to convene local entrepreneurs with shared interests in the industry, providing a platform for networking, collaboration, and knowledge exchange. Additionally, it aims to attract investments, encourage entrepreneurship, and support sustainable economic growth within rural communities.
Topics tackled during the first day includes Basics of Poultry Production, Poultry Farm Care Management and Managing the Welfare of the Birds, Animal Welfare Act, Practices for Sustainable Poultry Business & Potential Risk and Mitigation Strategies in Poultry Production, Value Chain of Chicken.
On the 2nd day, the discussion covered the Philippine Code of Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP) for broiler and layer chickens. Additionally, an experiential sharing on Tips and Practices on Poultry Management and Marketing was also featured. Furthermore, information regarding agricultural loans was also provided to the participants.
Adrian Castaneda of the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division stressed the mandate of the agency on food sufficiency and security, emphasizing that part of this mandate is the promotion of agribusiness. “We are not only focusing on promoting vegetables and other crops, we are also strengthening the livestock and poultry industry. This forum shall serve as a ground for sharing experiences while learning new insights that you may apply on your enterprises,” he said.
