Around Seventeen (17) areas in the highland communities of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) will soon garner the benefits from having a tramline service next year.

Department of Agriculture (DA) Assistant Secretary for Logistics Daniel Atayde said that the areas of Baguio City, Buguias in Benguet and Sadsadan in Bauko, Mountain Province will be the initial beneficiaries of the heavy-duty tramlines for implementation in 2026.

ASec Atayde personally inspected and conducted dialogues with the concerned local government units (LGUs) and Farmers’ Cooperatives and Associations during his scheduled visit in Baguio City, Benguet and Mountain Province on April 23-24, 2025.

Said areas were identified as the initial areas considered for the construction of tramlines to help the local high value crops farmers in the transport of their agricultural produce, specifically vegetables.

“The Regional Agriculture and Engineering Division (RAED) of the DA-CAR has finished the database geo-mapping that mapped-out the vegetable and rice areas after the department identified the initial strategic interventions namely post-harvest facilities, cold storages and tram lines, among others,” Atayde said. Accordingly, these strategic interventions were laid down in the four-year plan of DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. wherein logistics support is among the focus to maintain quality of agricultural produce and prevent post harvest losses.

The construction of tramlines will help reduce the travel time and transport costs of farmers in Baguio City, Benguet, Mountain Province, and other highland areas in the region in delivering their agricultural products to the market.//JTLlanes
