DA Undersecretary for Operations, Agri-Fisheries Mechanization and Rural Credit Engr. Roger V. Navarro graces today’s culmination of the Farmers and Fisherfolk Month Celebration at the Rose Garden, Burnham Park, Baguio City.

Usec. Navarro, in his keynote message, thanked the farmers and fisherfolk for their resilience and continuing efforts to achieving food security in the country. He encouraged them to utilize climate-resilient and new agricultural technologies, including good agricultural practices to improve their production and level-up quality of their products considering the changing climate and weather patterns in the country. He also recognized that the continuing public-private partnerships are crucial in developing the agricultural landscape.

The Farmers and Fisherfolk Month culmination highlights also the awarding of 12 regional outstanding farmers, fishers and groups across the region who were nominated for the DA’s 50th Gawad Saka this year. Moreover, eight (😎 agricultural and multipurpose cooperatives who are registered with the Farmers and Fisherfolk Enterprise Development Information System or FFEDIS of DA were certified and recognized to have the potential to avail of the Sagip Saka benefits which will be assisted by the DA’s Interim Agricultural Cooperative Enterprise Devrlopment Division.

These cooperatives are: Pudtol Agrarian Reform Multi-purpose Cooperarive (MPC), Matagoan MPC, Anabel Sadanga MPC, Rio Chico Agriculture Coop, Apayao Seed Producers MPC, Flora Farm Cluser Agriculture Coop, Sarangay Community MPC, and Kalanguya Agriculture Cooperative.
DA-CAR Regional Executive Director Atty. Jennilyn M. Dawayan expressed her gratitude to the farmers and fishers of the Cordillera region, for their cooperation and unwavering support to the overall goals of the department.
The participants, reaching to at least 600, composed of farmers, fishers, local government units, regional line agencies and private agricultural input providers were warmly welcomed by Baguio City Mayor Benjamin C. Magalong. He recognized the significant contribution of farmers and fishers in boosting the local economy as they remain committed, steadfast, and hopeful.
