The Department of Agriculture–Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) commemorated the 86th anniversary of the proclamation of the Baguio Animal Breeding and Research Center (BABRC) on August 4, 2026, at the Organic Agriculture Building inside the BABRC compound in Barangay Dontogan, Baguio City.
Formerly known as the Baguio Dairy Farm, the 94.13-hectare government reservation was established for animal breeding through Proclamation No. 603 signed by then Commonwealth President Manuel L. Quezon on August 5, 1940. Over the years, the center has evolved into an integrated research, animal breeding, technology demonstration, dairy, and agro-tourism facility while remaining true to its mandate of advancing agricultural development in the Cordillera.
During the commemoration, Research Division Chief Nicasio S. Baucas underscored that the success and continued protection of BABRC are made possible through the collective efforts of partner agencies and stakeholders. “We are partners today, and we are partners in protecting this property,” he said. He acknowledged the strong support of the DA-CAR management, the Philippine National Police, and other partners that has enabled the center to expand its production and services.
Meanwhile, Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations Arlene M. Sagayo, affirmed the agency’s continued efforts in addressing pending cases concerning the property. She encouraged the public to visit the center, discover its programs and services, and take part in preserving its environment by planting more trees around the facility.
To strengthen this shared commitment, representatives from the Baguio City Police Office, National Meat Inspection Service, Barangay Dontogan, community leaders, and DA-CAR personnel signed a Pledge of Commitment to uphold Proclamation No. 603, preserve the integrity of BABRC, safeguard its purpose, and promote its legacy for the benefit of present and future generations.//Leny D.
